Destination Overview

Patras, or Patra in Greek, is a large city situated on the northern tip of the Peloponnesian Peninsula and stretches along the beautiful coast of the Gulf of Patras. Like any dreamscape, the ocean gives way to the beach, which gives way to the city, which makes its way up to the base of soaring mountains in the distance. Students will not feel out of place in this college town, home to two public universities and consequently a large young population.

The City

The third-largest city in Greece, Patras holds plenty of city life to contrast its beachy feel. With the beautiful Rio-Antirio bridge, sandy beaches along the coast, and a magnificent castle along the Corinthian Gulf, Patra is the Greecian paradise you didn’t know existed. True to Greek form, there is no shortage of Roman ruins to discover, cathedrals to visit, or public squares to be enjoyed. On the weekends, hop on a ferry to Kefalonia or take a short flight over to the more popular Greek islands of Oia and Santorini.

St. Andrew's Stairs

For the best sunset spot in Patras, make the hike up the St. Andrew's Stairs and look back over the city during golden hour. It will probably burn images into your brain that will make you nostalgic for the next 20 years, but those are the moments we live for.
